Zagreb, Croatia: A Touch of Class

I have dreamed of traveling on the Orient Express. That dream has yet to be fulfilled but I was able to enjoy a touch of class at the Regent Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb. The Esplanade was built in 1925 to accommodate guests on the Orient Express. The property has been completely remodeled and reopened in 2004. The aura of grandeur is everywhere. The clocks above the door tell the time at various world locations, tasseled room keys hang on the cabinet behind the registration desk, and there is marble everywhere. Everything from the fireplaces to the chandeliers to the service reflects the era of the Orient Express.

Today guests can enjoy a day of exploring Zagreb knowing that when they return to the Regent Esplanade their personal trainer will be available for pilates, yoga, or a dance class. Or, maybe a relaxing massage, sauna, pedicure, manicure or a variety of alternative treatments. Be decadent and try the Chocolate Dream Massage or destress with a Swedish massage.

Refreshed and invigorated continue the relaxation with an Orient Express cocktail at the Esplanade 1925 Lounge followed by dinner in Zinfandel’s Restaurant. The very name Orient Express conjures up images of a more genteel time and the Regent Esplanade has managed to keep the aura and dream alive.
