Hong Kong, China: The Peninsula

"Welcome Home!" said the bellhop when he delivered my luggage to my Harbor View Suite in the Hong Kong Peninsula. If only it really was my home! The living room had an expansive view of the busy harbor and Hong Kong Island. The sitting area of my bedroom had a corner window complete with a telescope while beyond the dressing room, in the bathroom, the corner bathtub also had expansive window on the world of Hong Kong.

There is an aura in the Peninsula Hotels that goes beyond the fact that they are continually rated the best in the world. Just stepping into the marble lobby with massive pillars and the string quartet playing discretely in a balcony alcove is to enter another world. It is like the world took a deep breath, put all of the world’s problems in a bubble, and blew them away. There is only subdued conversation as people enjoy high tea around marble top tables on exclusive Tiffany chinaware while listening to classical music.

Ning Salon, Felix’s, and Gaddi’s may be where the elite eat and hang out but when they want to relax and be rejuvenated they head to the Peninsula’s spa. It is the ultimate in indulgence by combining European, Oriental, and Ayurvedic philosophies for a holistic experience. The treatments vary from the Yang Soother, which gently soothes the skin with essential oils, green tea, and marine mud to the Deep Tissue Massage, which uses hot stones along with deep massage to relieve deep-seated tensions.

After a soothing treatment relax in the state-of-the-art crystal steam room, invigorate at the ice fountain, and enjoy the incredible view of Hong Kong Harbor in the relaxation room. Think about it. A hotel with a fleet of 14 Rolls Royces offers nothing less than the ultimate. No does it like the Peninsula.
